ISDN is probably one of the most advanced and extensively used digital communication tools in cyber world today. Our 128 KB ISDN service is a digital dial-up service, which enables users to transmit information such as voice, data, video and images over a telephone line. Digital technology results in higher transfer speed, increased capacity and productivity, as well as crystal clear voice and sound quality. Thus, communicating with this kind of technology opens many doors. | | |

- The prices for these ISDN offerings are subject to change and are dependent on the pricing structure employed by Telkom / SAIX.
- Calls on both channels of the ISDN line will be billed.
- ISDN is an access medium to the Internet, while Compu & IT Solutions is an ISP. Thus, Compu & IT Solutions cannot overcome any bandwidth related constraints within the World Wide Web. ISDN eliminates waiting time and provides faster access than a 56 KB dial-up line, but still, we do not have control over where the various web servers are hosted and the amount of subscribers accessing the Internet at any one time. Therefore, it's a best effort service and no guarantees are provided on throughput. Please remember that best effort applies once the Internet is reached.
- Proxy settings are of great benefit when it comes to an even faster connection. When configuring your settings in your web browser, ensure that you make use of the SAIX proxy servers - one of the largest caching servers in Africa - for an improved experience.
- On a Basic rate access there are 2 x 64 kbps independent logical channels, which can be used for voice data, video and image. In addition supplementary services are available that provide a wider range of features and applications.
- You can connect analogue equipment to an ISDN2 service. However, you need to purchase a Terminal Adaptor.
- You can use your existing telephone equipment with the voice portion of an ISDN line. Existing equipment such as analogue telephones, group 3 facsimile machines and modems can still be used, provided that you order the ISDN2a service. This kind of service will provide you with two analogue ports. Alternatively, you can buy a Terminal adapter (or ISDN modem with a terminal adaptor) and order an ISDN2 service.
| - How difficult will it be to connect to the Internet ?? VERY easy. Our ISDN connection is always available and it's just one click away.
- Can I use the existing local lines for ISDN ?? Yes, both ISDN2 and ISDN2a accesses use the existing local leads of your existing telephone service. It is also possible to convert a normal telephone service to an ISDN line. Note that a conversion cost is applicable.
- What is the difference between the call charges for ADSL and ISDN ?? Since ADSL is an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), it will provide users with always-available flat-rated Internet access. ISDN, on the other hand, is more than just a means of accessing the Internet; it provides users with a digital network for voice, fax, data and text. ISDN usage is charged according to specific requirements (such as local call rates and a monthly subscription fee etc.), where as ADSL is charged at a fixed monthly tariff for Internet usage. Compu & IT Solutions will be the ones charging you the "monthly subscription fee" part, where as Telkom will be the one charging you for the call itself.
- What is the difference between the call charges for Diginet and ISDN ?? Diginet is a permanent connection whereas ISDN is a switched service – in other words you need to dial-up to access the service. Since Diginet is a permanent connection, the costs involved are a fixed monthly rental. As far as it concerns ISDN, there is a fixed monthly rental and an additional usage charge.
- Will I be able to use my phone line for anything else ?? There's no need to suspend your Internet connection - phone calls and faxes can still be made, received and sent at all times.
- What is the access speed ?? The up- and download speed will depend on the speed of your connection. We provide you with an ISDN account, a username and password. You'll need to have an ISDN telephone line and -modem (see the list of requirements).
- Do you offer Spam Filtering and Virus Protection ?? All incoming messages to our servers are scanned for malicious and unsolicited content.
