Getting your website to run and to use SSL, you'll need :

• An SSL certificate
• Dedicated IP address (i.e. static IP)

You need the SSL certificate to secure your domain with https. And since good things come together, it might be worthwhile to state that, by using your Dedicated SSL in conjunction with the SSL manager feature (included in our hosting packages), you'll be able to generate :

• SSL certificates (.crt)
• Certificate signing requests (.csr)
• Private keys (.key)

Alternatively, you can buy an SSL certificate from one of the big names such as http://www.thawte.com or http://www.verisign.com    Or you can opt for shared SSL.

NOTE : Our SSL certificates don't include a dedicated hosting IP therefore, you'll need to purchase a dedicated IP credit separately if you're adding a certificate to your site.

In order for you to add an SSL certificate to your website, you'll also need a :

• Dedicated IP address (i.e. static IP)

In plain English, you need a Dedicated IP (static IP) if you want to install a security certificate. Why would you want to install a security certificate ?? You'd do this if you want to setup secure pages, say for instance, for the purpose of selling your goods from your website.

A Dedicated IP Address will, amongst other things, allow you to :

View your website via this (dedicated) IP address of yours
Access your account by means of FTP (or the web) when your domain is, for some reason, not accessible i.e. during periods of domain name propagation
Ensure much faster response during times of high traffic load
Set up SSL protection (and add SSL certificates) for your website
